Did you know that using an oil cleanser is a great way to purify the skin without dehydrating and stripping away important natural oils. Most people don’t realise that oil-based cleanser can be used on all skin types, even oily skin! Follow our simple 5-step guide to the oil cleansing method to discover the sensation of silky-soft skin.
What Is Oil Cleanser?
Oil cleansers are soap-free, which means that they cleanse gently without stripping away natural oils. Unlike water-based cleansers, oil-based cleansers can dissolve makeup, dirt, sunscreen, and pollutants while gently nourishing the skin.
What’s The Best Cleansing Oil For Face?
A cleansing oil for face is a great addition to any skincare routine. However, not just any oil will do. Some oils, such as Coconut Oil, are comedogenic, meaning that they can clog pores and cause congestion.
Luckily, at Sanctuary Spa, we use a nourishing blend of pure essential oils for the most indulgent cleansing experience. Our Melt Away Cleansing Oil is infused with lightweight and silky Avocado, Jojoba, Lavender, and Bitter Orange Flower Oils that work together to break down dirt and makeup, while giving skin a nourishing moisture boost.
How To Use Oil Cleanser: The Oil Cleansing Method
Great for all skin types, and especially soothing on dry skin, Sanctuary Spa oil cleanser can be used both morning and night as part of your skincare routine.
Step 1. Apply
Take one or two pumps of Melt Away Cleansing Oil in your hands. Massage between your palms then apply to a dry face.
Step 2. Massage
The oil cleansing method is the perfect way to introduce a little luxury into your daily routine. When you’ve applied the oil to your face, massage in circular motions.
Massaging the face helps to reduce puffiness and boost circulation. If you have an extra minute to spend, gently massage along the jaw, cheekbones, brow bone, and forehead – don’t forget your neck either!
Step 3. Rinse
After massaging, rinse thoroughly with warm water. Our Melt Away Cleansing Oil transforms into a lightweight, luxurious milky texture when in contact with water, leaving skin beautifully clean with no greasy residue.
If you’re wearing makeup, use a damp face cloth to gently remove the oil-based cleanser from the eye area and sweep away even the toughest waterproof mascara.
Therapist’s Tip: Make sure you rinse with warm, not hot, water. Using hot water on delicate facial areas can damage the skin’s natural moisture barrier, causing dryness and irritation.
Step 4. Double cleanse (optional)
If you’ve been wearing heavier makeup, or just feel like your skin could do with an extra polish in the evening, why not give double cleansing a go? It’s a lot less complicated than it sounds! Simply use your oil cleanser as usual, and follow with a light, water-based cleanser to remove residual dirt and give skin an extra radiance boost.

The Sanctuary Spa Foaming Micellar Cleansing Water is a gentle cleanser, perfect for double cleansing. After using a cleansing oil for face, saturate a cotton pad and sweep over the skin to enjoy the benefits of soothing Rose Water and makeup-dissolving Micelles.
Step 5. Moisturise
After nourishing the skin with an oil cleanser, it’s important to lock that extra hydration in. Look for a face cream containing Hyaluronic Acid that draws moisture deep into the skin for long-lasting hydration and a plumping effect. Our Supercharged Hyaluronic Face & Neck Crème is lightweight and ultra-hydrating, keeping skin feeling moisturised for 24 hours.
If you struggle with oily or blemish-prone skin, or just fancy an extra glow, try our Daily Glow Radiance Tonic before moisturising. Its radiance-giving formula of Glycolic Acid and Vitamin B gently exfoliates, retexturises and brightens. Simply sweep over the face with a cotton pad and allow to absorb before moisturising.
Using an oil cleansing method doesn’t have to be complicated or time consuming! It’s a great way to introduce a little luxury into your routine and enjoy a gentle facial massage too.
Give the Sanctuary Spa oil-based cleanser a go and experience deeply nourished, hydrated and cleansed skin!
