The Sanctuary Spa Story

Ballerina beginnings

Not many people know this, but originally The Sanctuary Spa was born as the ultimate act of love. It opened in 1977 in Covent Garden by a man madly in-love with his ballerina wife. The Spa was a place of pure tranquillity where the ballerinas of the Royal Opera House, would retreat to relax, unwind & recover.

Secrets of the spa

Some famous faces seen at the spa include Joan Collins, Debbie Harry, Dame Helen Mirren, Dame Emma Thompson and Holly Willoughby to name a few! It was visited by over 64,000 women each year.

As of 31st May 2014, after 37 years in its Covent Garden home, Sanctuary Spa closed. Proud of the heritage, love and loyalty that the spa has received over the years, we would like to take this opportunity to thank all the guests that visited.

Your Self-Care Sanctuary

Of course, closing the spa wasn’t the end of Sanctuary Spa. Using luxurious formulations inspired by the spa and developed with our therapists, we launched the indulgent Sanctuary Spa body care range in 1988. Packed with precious oils, rich butters and our iconic fragrance we continue to evolve our award winning collection year on year.

Today Sanctuary offers so much more than beauty products, expertly created to revive, uplift & replenish whether you have 30 seconds or 30 minutes, we’ll help you create your self-care Sanctuary, whatever that looks like to you.
